Why You'll Never Forget the Way A Colleague Made you Feel

"I have a question for you...? Do you like moving at a glacial pace...?"  Why no grandiose dramatic publisher at prestigious brand, I didn't, but clearly the voice on the other end of the line had just watched The Devil Wears Prada and decided that she was in fact Meryl Streep.  The point is, I will never forget the way that I felt in that moment.  I wasn't sure if I peed my pants a little or blacked out, clearly neither but ten years later that moment is etched in my brain.  I felt as big as an acorn, trying to figure out what exactly I had done to warrant such a nasty response, when in reality, there was no real problem.  

She wasn't kind and kindness in a fast paced work environment or any environment quite frankly is imperative.  Oftentimes our days are filled with unattainable deadlines, micro managing bosses, close 'open' quarters and long days filled with Meryl wannabes–why be a jerk when you can be kind?  If your business is anything like mine, you're not working in a vacuum and we're all human beings.  Before you fly off the handle, snap at your neighbor and tell your boss to s*it in their hat...take a breath and remember it's just a job!  Tomorrow's another day and you never want to be the reason for a colleague crying in their favorite bathroom stall.
